When will you start flying?
We are working feverishly to launch flight operations but as you can imagine, there are a lot of certification and other activities to be completed prior to "taking off".
We are currently projected to initiate flights in a few months but that may vary so please check back often or register so we can keep you posted on our launch date.
We will announce a firm inaugural flight schedule approximately 3 months before we "take off".
What cities will you serve?
When we launch flight operations, we will initially service one region of the US
and then expand to cover the entire country. With our flexible scheduling
model, we will be able to operate into many cities, even those that only have
an executive or municipal airport.
How much will it cost?
We have designed our service to operate as
inexpensively as possible while still providing safe, compassionate service
nationwide. Many examples of fares are shown on our Fares & Reservations Page.
Our fares are distance based so the price
for any route can be estimated by looking at one of the examples that are near
the same distance.
When we are closer to our
first flight and our reservation system goes live, current fares will be
accessible for all cities we serve. Cities and fares will be updated regularly
so please check back often.
If the city I need to travel to or from isn’t shown on your fares, does that mean you won’t fly
there?
Fares on our pricing table are only a small sample of the cities
we will serve. As we expand to your region of the country, many cities will be
served and additional cities will be added monthly. It is very likely that your
city will be served when we roll out operations in your region or added on
soon.
When can I make my reservation?
While you can normally make reservations up
to 6 months in advance, initially our reservation system will become active
only when we have established a solid first flight date.
We expect that the system will go live
approximately 3 months before Companion Air flights begin.
Please register or watch the site for
updates.
Will you be under embargo in the summer or winter like the airlines?
Nope. Our operation is designed
with pet safety and comfort in mind. We provide controlled environments during
aircraft and ground operations.
Since
pets and their owners are our sole focus, we can ensure their safety when
conditions are too difficult for general carriers to transport safely.
Can my pet fly without me? Can I fly alone (without my pet)?
Companion
Air is a pet airline and designed for them to fly alone or with their families.
We also welcome people who enjoy the exceptional experience of traveling in a
exclusive aircraft and enjoy the surroundings of our animal friends.
Are the animals in kennels or are they loose?
We are a pet airline so pets actually fly
our aircraft. OK, they don’t really fly but they do dictate where we fly. Actually,
our pet travelers are secured in kennels in a separate section in the rear of
the cabin on our aircraft. Generally they will remain in their kennels but
owners who fly along can walk back and visit when flight conditions allow. At
the discretion of the cabin crew, in special circumstances, pet travelers may
be allowed to visit their owners with only one pet allowed out of their kennel
at a time.
Do I need my own kennel?
We will have
kennels available for rent but we strongly suggest that owners purchase a
kennel for their own pet. Creating a familiar environment for your pet can
reduce the stress of travel.
Acclimating your pet to their own kennel for a couple of weeks by
placing their favorite toys or blankets inside can prepare them for a more enjoyable
journey.
Will there be someone on board (besides the flight crew) to attend to my pet?
Every
Companion Air flight is attended by one of our specially selected and trained
cabin-crew members. Many have vet tech experience and all are compassionate pet
lovers. They are there firstly for you and your pet’s safety, but they strive
to make your trip truly exceptional.
How big are the planes? Are they comfortable?
Our aircraft are mid-size business transport
aircraft.
They are larger than most
business jets and the interiors are configured with roomy executive seats. The
aircraft in our fleet is remarkably quiet and you will find it easy to have
“normal voice” conversations on board in flight.
How fast are your planes?
Companion
Air planes fly at altitudes as high as 30,000 feet and at speeds of over 300
mph.
How early will I need to arrive at the airport?
We recommend that you arrive at the terminal
30 minutes before departure time but not less than 15 minutes prior to departure.
That
will allow plenty of time to take care of last minute needs of your pet and
allow you to board stress free. There is no need to arrive 2 hours before the
flight as is currently recommended when you fly commercial airlines.
Are the small planes you use safe?
The aircraft we have selected were chosen for their design,
reliability and safety.
There are
hundreds operating around the world for all types of missions including as air
ambulances.
Built in Switzerland, you
will admire the craftsmanship and attention to detail that is apparent from the
moment you approach.
How many people and animals can fit on a flight?
Companion Air aircraft can accommodate up to
6 people and up to 12 pets depending upon size.
I have a group that would like to travel to a show together. Is there a special rate?
With our flexible scheduling operation,
we will be recreating
routes each week to meet travel demand. So when there is traffic to events such
as shows, we'll route to accommodate it. In terms of discounts, there are
significant discounts for multiple travelers. The details are contained in our
fare rules and under additional information. Roundtrips, second humans and pets
all earn substantial discounts.
We may occasionally offer other special route or last minute discounts. They can be seen on our "Shows and Specials" page.
I’m a travel agent. How can I find out more about your service and how to book my clients?
We will have brochures and information packs for travel agents.
Please access our "Travel Agent" page for the latest information.
Will I fly non-stop?
Many flights
will make a stop or two enroute to your destination.
These stops are typically very short, only long enough to load or
unload. Combining travelers allows us to keep our loads up and our fares down.
Some travelers will transfer at one of our centers. The lounges are designed
around pet and owner comfort and are a part of the experience you will likely find
enjoyable.
What kinds of airports will you be flying into?
We generally operate from secondary,
executive and municipal airports. We avoid the major airports used by
commercial airlines.
Why do you have 3 fares?
All of our
fares offer the same, exceptional on-board experience. The 3 tiered pricing
rewards travelers who allow flexibility in their travel dates.
For example, our lowest fare, Casual
Comfort, requires a 14 day travel window.
It is of use for pet relocations and allows us to integrate those
travelers into our routes quite easily. The more flexibility, the more
efficient our flexible scheduling can be so we pass those savings to the
traveler. See our "Fares & Reservations" page for explanations of our fares.
How will I know my flight times and where to meet the plane?
When you receive your ticket confirmation
via email, you will also receive all the information you will need for your
flight including the flight schedule, directions on where to meet your flight,
documentation requirements for you and your pet, and policies and guidelines.
How much baggage can I carry?
Baggage is limited to 50 pounds in 2 bags.
Please let us know if you have additional
baggage requirements.
What will my pet need to travel? How about me?
See travel
requirements on our site.
You will also
receive information with your e-ticket. People will need a photo ID and ticket
confirmation.
I do animal rescue work. Can you help us deliver these wonderful animals to new, loving homes?
We have dedicated 5% of our operating hours and
excess seating to support charitable causes, both human and pet. Those donated
services are available to your rescue organization for those cases where
hardships exist. In addition, we offer an additional 10% discount (in
addition to our other discounts for roundtrips, multiple travelers, etc.) for all
Companion Air registered rescue organizations. See our "Rescue & Charity" page to sign up.
